Tips To Save Money On Heating Bills
One of the most hated things during winter is paying your heating bills. Especially now when prices are going up. Best and most effective way to minimize your expenses is to properly winterize your windowpanes. Agencies say that if your windowpanes are winterized it can cut your bills down to 20% or 30%, which would make a pretty decent amount of money. Most important thing about preparing windowpanes is to not let any warm air out and we will cover this in the next chapters. 1. First you need to know with what kind of windowpanes you are dealing with before starting the winterization. That will save you time afterwards and will let you find the correct necessary installations. Double hung, Single, hung, swing out, horizontal sliding, slat piece and more, these are the types. Another thing you have to be aware of is age of your windowpanes, if they turns out to be old they won’t function properly and that means struggling with heat loss and paying for bills. Of course it may cost you quite a bit to exchange them, but it’s more of a long term plan. 2. Then check your windowpanes for outflows and leaks. One of the ways to test it is with a candle. Light it and hold it very close to you windowpane and see if the flame wavers if it does make certain actions to prevent that. You can also use an incense stick. 3. Have a weather-stripping to repair leaks. It always depends on the kind of window you have and the sort of weather-strip to apply. Also you can get the materials on personal bases or just buy weather-strip kit. Depending on your windowpane try to fit and match weather-strip to your sash, sides and along frames. 4.

SSecure your windowpanes. To seal and avoid any fractures on your window panes, caulking is one of the options. If there is some kind of crack that furthers heat loss, you need to cover the frame and sash with caulk or wherever you see the crack. 5. You can cover your cracked windowpanes with some plastic. It can be an easy solution to leaking windowpanes. You can cover both sides inside windowpanes or outer layer. When double sided tape wrapped on the window frame, try adding shrinked plastic, you can purchase it from home improvement shops. After that to smooth and shrink the plastic use a hair dryer. 6. You can always consider purchasing blinds. Make sure they will fit with multi layered remedy like vinyl backed drapes. It’s recommended to have a good amount of layers, so you could hold and keep warm air inside and not let it go outside, that way saving your heating bills. Drapes alone without blinds will do quite a good job. |
